Steven Dews' immaculate renditions of racing yachts and marine vessels are intricately researched, and the impact of his brush can only be described as breathtaking. But it is his artistic genius which draws collectors of his work to spend over £50,000 on his oil paintings and avidly collect limited edition prints of his work. Born in Yorkshire in 1949, Steven's life epitomises the rags to riches fairy tale. Following his graduation from the Hull Regional College of Art, he surrendered himself to art. Having built up an astonishing first portfolio, he held his first exhibition in 1976. On the night it opened, virtually the whole body of his work sold out and he received 17 commissions. Since then he has continued exhibiting at leading galleries in countries as far flung as Australia, Bermuda and the United States, and he is commissioned for several years in advance. Today he is one of our greatest living artists, acknowledges by Sotheby's of London as 'the best - there's no one else to touch him'. |
