Moonbridge, Ella - Biography

Ella was born in Bromley, Kent but has spent most of her life in Sussex. Her early career was very varied and included a Foundation Year at Croydon School of Art, studio work for a screenprinting business and working as a technician for the Medical Research Council at Sussex University. She returned to art as a mature student, graduating from Brighton in 1980 with a BA Hons (first class) in Graphics and Illustration. Following this she worked as a printmaker producing limited edition screenprints which were sold in the USA, Far East and Australia as well as Europe. The emphasis in her work shifted from printmaking to watercolour painting around 1984/85 and she went on to produce images of the Sussex and Kent countryside, colourful walled gardens and bluebell woods. Her paintings are usually of peaceful subjects and often include water. She has worked in a variety of other media and subject matter over the years, including portraiture, but currently works in both watercolour and acrylic on images of the sea and landscape. Ella has taught part-time at Hastings and Maidstone Colleges of Art and has also worked as a graphic designer and Illustrator. She has participated in various mixed shows and had several one-woman exhibitions. Her work is shown in galleries in Sussex and in Suffolk.
